What is Masonry?
Masonry is the largest, most prestigious fraternity in the world.
It is an association of men bound by a common belief in the importance of
doing good in the world, self-development, and living a life of high ethical and
moral standards.
How do I become a Mason?
You may already know a Mason. If so,
you may wonder why he has not asked you to join.
The reason is that he can not.
You have to ask. Membership is not
by invitation. You must petition the
lodge to join. Where do you get a petition?
Well that is easy, just click
HERE
. You see
Masonry has a strong basis in faith, and the Bible teaches - Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will
be opened to you.
Is Masonry a Secret Society?
No, this is a mistaken notion although it has been widely believed from the beginning. The membership, meeting places and activities
of the Masonic fraternity are actually well known to anyone who is interested.
What do Masons believe in?
Members of the Masonic Fraternity practice a sincere belief in the Fatherhood of
God and the Brotherhood of Man, and feel that by improving the individual man we
can achieve better men in a better world, happier men in a happier world, and wiser
men in a wiser world.
What do Masons do?
Masons help each other, no matter where they are in the world.
We help others, too. That is
why we give approximately $1.5 million each day in charity, most of it to people
who have no connection with the fraternity.
Masons agree to live by a code of ethics and morality which puts others first. We promote good relations and strong
family values. We do everything we
can to strengthen the family unit of the American society.
How important are Masons?
Masonry includes some of the most important leaders of the world in government,
business, and the professions. Men
like J.C. Penny, Winston Churchill, General George Patton, Drs. Charles Mayo and
Karl Menninger, Mozart, Irving Berlin, the Rev. Norman Vincent Peale, and Will Rogers
have been Masons. Masonry played a
pivotal part in the creation of the
United
States. George Washington was a Mason, as
was Benjamin Franklin, Paul Revere, and John Hancock.
Many of the men who wrote the constitution were members of the fraternity. From the beginning to present day, Masons
have been leaders of
America
, including 14 Presidents of the
United
States
, and thousands of Senators, Representatives, and Supreme Court Justices.
Masonry as a fraternity
Masonry is the largest civic and fraternal organization in
Oklahoma
. With more than 40,000 members, there
are Masons in every town in the state.
It is one of the strongest organizations anywhere.
Masonry offers world-wide connections
Masons have networking opportunities with other men from all walks of life and every
country, in the trades, business, professions, government, and even in retirement.
Masons give help and service to others
We give assistance to members and their families (from the cradle to the grave)
whenever requested to do so. No member
is ever left without help. We are known
for the fraternal care we give our members.
Masonry is one of the leading charitable
institutions
in all the world
Masons give approximately $1.5 million in charitable gifts every day, mostly to
those who do not even belong to the fraternity.
Masonry ranks in the 10 best-liked charitable
groups in
America
A recent survey of the American public indicates that the work the Shrine Masons
do ranks 9th in best-liked charities in the
United
States
. We are the eighth most credible charity
in
America
Masonry offers time-proven self development
programs for men
Masonry is an educational organization.
Through its teachings, it provides a practical course in morals and ethics. It gives members a set of time-proven
tools which help them set good examples for their families, business associates,
friends, and all with whom they come in contact.
Masonry and Public Education
Masonry is the largest private partner of public education in
Oklahoma
. We sponsor the Oklahoma Teacher of
the Year program and the State Superintendents Arts in Excellence Awards.
We adopt schools and classrooms, fund school libraries, sponsor childhood
literacy programs, and give thousands of dollars in student scholarships each year.
Masonry and Childhood Literacy
Masonry is a national and state award winner for the work in the area of childhood
language disorders. We fund 112 speech
therapy clinics in the
United
States
. We sponsor a special curriculum that
has a proven 85% success rate in teaching dyslexic children to read.
We make available special phonics-based reading programs to every kindergarten
and elementary student in
Oklahoma
.
Masonry and Youth Leadership

which focus on the needs of youth, including social, athletic, leadership, and self-awareness
programs.
Masonry supports Public Television
We are a leading sponsor of public television, bringing a wide variety of educational
programs to citizens all over
Oklahoma
. We strongly endorse the educational
mission of public television.
Masonry bridges communication
Masonry brings men of all ages together in the fraternity with a set of shared experiences
and shared values. It eliminates the
generation gap and creates a special bond between men.
Masonry builds life-long relationships.
Masonry teaches toleration and respect for all
things
We teach that each man has a right to think for himself in religious, social and
political matters. Masonic lodges offer
men a safe, caring, equality-based environment in the midst of an ever-increasingly
intolerant world.
